What kids think of childbirth

I am collecting audio and video for a collaborative project about what kids think of childbirth. If you would like your child to be a part of this project, take a simple audio recording using your phone and ask them this one question: What do you think about childbirth? Keep the clips limited to one minute and then send it to me at info@michellehartney.com with the subject CHILDBIRTH. The audio will be paired with videos of kid’s hands flipping through the above flip book created by artist Ruth Hayes.

I am also taking submissions for video clips of kid’s hands flipping through the book. To take part in this aspect of the project you will need to purchase one of the flip books from Ruth. They are only $8.75 and are a great way to introduce younger kids to the visual of a child being born. Take a 30 second video of your child’s hands flipping through, then upload it here. Make sure you closely crop the image so just the book and hands are in the shot.

This video will be included in an exhibition opening in May at Indiana University titled Birth by the Book: Artist Book Exhibition, curated by Emily Zarse.

By sending an audio or video clip to me you are consenting that your child’s hands or voice can be a part of this project.
