The Alchemy of Heresy

In the heart of a society that cherishes the exchange of ideas, the sanctity of literature must remain inviolable. “The Alchemy of Heresy" stands as a response to the stifling grip of censorship and book banning in the United States Through the installation of a network of Little Libraries, each filled with banned books, this project seeks to challenge the boundaries to knowledge and imagination. Each Little Library becomes a beacon of defiance, inviting readers to explore the forbidden words and worlds that challenge the status quo. Developed by activist artists Ann Lewis and Michelle Hartney, these Little Libraries will be works of art as well as tools for dismantling the death grip of the “imperialist white-supremacist capitalist patriarchy” that stifles our collective voices.

A collection of banned books, spanning various genres and themes, will be carefully selected to showcase the breadth of perspectives that censorship seeks to suppress. These books will serve as the cornerstone of each Little Library's literary offering.

The first little library will be unveiled this December at the NADA Art Fair in Miami. To cover the cost of this project, a GoFundme has been created offering several incentives for those who donate, including the two prints below designed by Ann Lewis and Michelle Hartney.
